Big Haiti Travel Tips

Because space is limited in the supply containers pack light and carry all your personal items in your personal carry on luggage.  Your checked luggage will be two large containers of medical supplies.  The weight of the checked luggage has been reduced from 70 to 50 pounds.  You are allowed to carry on board American Airlines one suitcase/backpack and one small bag. The suitcase must fit in the overhead compartment and the small bag must fit under your seat.  You may want to consider not wearing your return home clothes while in Haiti so that they will remain clean.  You may also want to consider a return home pair of shoes.

The information below is from the AA web site concerning your personal carry on.  There is also a link below that will show you a picture of the plastic bag.  We can put items in the tubs if small size bottles are not available and for the bug spray.   You may want to write your name on the bag should it get mixed up with another passengers bag.

Travel From The United States* And Canada
Customers traveling from the U.S. and Canada may take with them in their cabin bag limited quantities of liquids, gels, and aerosols, including travel-size toiletries such as shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, toothpaste, hair gel and hair spray.

Liquids must be carried in individual containers no larger than 3.4 ounces/100 ml.

All liquid containers must be carried in a separate clear plastic, zip-top bag (see example at right) that does not exceed 8 inches x 8 inches (20 cm x 20 cm) or is quart size. Items must fit in the bag comfortably and the bag must be completely closed.

At the security checkpoint, the plastic bag must be removed from the cabin bag and x-ray screened separately.

Customers carrying liquids in their cabin bags may be subject to secondary searches before boarding
